How To Take Care of Marmoleum Flooring: focusing on performance, comfort, and easy ongoing maintenance, to help you choose and maintain the right floor.

The global flooring industry is worth over £286 billion. Non-resilient flooring, including marble, wood, and linoleum, makes up 61% of that revenue.

Marmoleum is the latest option in this category. It’s a more environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional linoleum. It’s made with natural materials and no harmful adhesives.

You can enjoy Marmoleum floors for years with proper maintenance. Read on to learn how to care for them.

What Is Marmoleum?

Marmoleum is an environmentally-friendly flooring option. It’s made of natural materials such as sawdust, minerals, and resins. It comes in sheets and tiles that are attached with non-toxic adhesive glue and covered with a protective coating.

Marmoleum flooring is made with linseed oil that helps it resist bacteria and dust. There are also several Marmoleum colours and designs to choose from. They penetrate from top to bottom, which keeps them from varnishing or wearing out.

Marmoleum vs. Linoleum

Marmoleum and linoleum both have a linseed oil base and several colour options, but several factors set them apart.

The most important one is the way they’re installed. Attaching linoleum floors often requires adhesives that can be toxic and create unpleasant odours, but Marmoleum doesn’t.

Caring For Marmoleum Flooring

16% of Brits never clean their floors. It puts their health at risk and makes their flooring break down sooner. Marmoleum can last for up to 20 years when properly cared for.

Start by vacuuming and sweeping to remove any traces of dust and dirt. You may also want to use a wax stripper.

Non-toxic soap or a vinegar and water mixture work better than traditional cleaning products. You can also try products made specifically for linoleum floors.

Marmoleum floors have deep grooves that can be a breeding ground for bacteria. Pay extra attention to them when cleaning. Use a small nylon brush dipped in detergent, but don’t let it touch the rest of your floor.

Rinse the floor with a mop when you’re done. Make sure it dries before letting anyone walk over it.

Clean up any spills or spots as soon as you see them. Use a plastic scraper and then mop the floor. If this doesn’t work, you can try a specialized cleaner, leave it on the spot for 2-3 minutes, and rub it with a pad, then rinse with water.

A neutral pH stripper can help fix wear and tear. Apply it then use a mop and non-abrasive scrubbing pad or scrub brush.

Using a clean towel and WD40 can help remove black marks. Placing furniture caps can help keep scratches from appearing on your floor.

Where to Find the Right Flooring

Marmoleum floors are a new, environmentally-friendly alternative to other non-resilient options. They’re made of natural materials, prevent dust and bacteria, and come in several colours.

Marmoleum lasts for years with the proper care. Vacuuming or sweeping them and then washing them with a gentle cleaner is usually enough. It’s also important to scrub the grooves and remove any spills as soon as possible.
